Libro primo de la Serena – the dawn of the madrigal

Musicians: 4-8 (voices, lute, viol, recorder)

Rome, 1530. Shortly after the Sack, the city remains devastated. Cultural life, however, has not surrendered.

In fact, it is at this very moment that the first book of madrigals in history is printed, featuring music by the illustrious Philippe Verdelot, Constanzo and Sebastiano Festa, Clément Janequin, and others—including many pieces that have not been heard in modern times…

Until now! While one partbook has unfortunately been lost, thanks to a careful and rigorous reconstruction of the missing voice, we have been able to revive these madrigals for the first time.

Additionally, we are excited to announce that the full collection, recorded by us at Prattica di musica, will soon be available as a CD.
