Sentite bella musica (hear such delightful music)

Musicians: 6 (4 voices, triple harp, theorbo, guitar)

Six friends gather in 1630, curious to explore a new book of musical entertainments for two, three, four, and five voices with basso continuo, just published in Venice: Le Fanfalughe by Ignazio Donati.
The singing of love and the pleasure of making music together then evoke, joyful or melancholic, the notes of other composers: a famous lament by Claudio Monteverdi and the Ariose vaghezze by Carlo Milanuzzi, also recently printed in Venice with chords for the Spanish guitar.
To further animate the evening, there’s an anonymous canzonetta, a reminder of a trip to Naples, and the prowesses of the harp and chitarrone, which do more than just support the voices.
Unfortunately, time does not allow for more than a taste of such music, and the friends must part, promising to meet again soon to discover more together.
